Halloween Safety Tips for Pets

Keep your furry friends safe and stress-free this spooky season

Halloween is full of fun—costumes, candy, and decorations galore—but it can also bring unexpected dangers for our pets. At Wildwood Petcare, we want your four-legged family members to enjoy a safe and happy holiday. Here are some simple ways to keep your pets protected this Halloween.

1. Keep the Treats Out of Reach

Chocolate, sugar-free candies containing xylitol, and even raisins can be toxic to pets. Be sure to store candy in secure containers and remind family and guests not to share their treats with your pets. If your pet manages to sneak some sweets, contact your veterinarian or an emergency animal clinic right away.

2. Choose Costumes Wisely (or Skip Them Altogether)

Costumes can be cute, but not all pets enjoy wearing them. If you do dress up your pet, make sure the costume fits comfortably, doesn’t restrict movement or vision, and doesn’t have small parts that could be chewed off. Always supervise your pet while they’re in costume.

3. Watch the Door and ID Tags

Frequent visitors and open doors can make it easy for curious pets to slip outside. Keep pets in a secure room away from the front door during trick-or-treating hours. Double-check that collars fit properly and that ID tags and microchips are up to date—just in case.

4. Beware of Decorations

Glowing pumpkins, electric cords, fake cobwebs, and dangling décor can all pose hazards. Pets might chew, tangle, or knock things over. Battery-operated candles are a safe alternative to open flames.

5. Manage the Noise and Chaos

The sights and sounds of Halloween—doorbells, costumes, loud noises—can be stressful for pets. Provide a quiet, cozy space with familiar toys and blankets. Playing calming music or using a white noise machine can also help reduce anxiety.
